We Must Resist Everywhere

Minneapolis is deservedly getting much of the attention for fighting the unconstitutional activities orchestrated by ICE, but ICE is operating everywhere. Even here in Pittsburgh. Ryan Deto and Chrissy Suttles writing for Axios Pittsburgh following the detention of Jose Flores, who has legal status, last week in Oakmont:

Southwestern Pennsylvania hasn’t seen the high-profile ICE surges that have hit cities like Minneapolis, but the Pittsburgh region saw at least 948 immigration-related arrests from January through mid-October 2025 — more than triple the year prior, per Public Source.

Oakmont commissioners will meet today to consider a ban on executing formal agreements – like the 287(g) – with federal immigration agents, with a potential vote happening as soon as later this week. I hope they make the right decision.

Some quick research unveiled that there are several municipalities in Southwestern Pennsylvania that have active 287(g) agreements with ICE. Those municipalities are:

  • Office of Constable Monroeville 6th Ward (signed 7/15/2025)
  • Springdale Borough Police Department (signed 11/6/2025)
  • Stowe Township Police Department (signed 12/11/2025)
  • Butler County Sheriff’s Office (signed 6/12/2025)
  • Union Township Police Department (signed 11/4/2025)
  • Washington County Sheriffs Office (signed 6/18/2025)
  • Lower Burrell Fourth Ward Constable (signed 5/16/2025)
  • Sewickley Township Constable’s Office (signed 5/8/2025)
  • Westmoreland County Sheriffs Office (signed 10/17/2025)

The reality is that ICE is everywhere. Their disgusting, inhumane and often unconstitutional tactics have the potential to be everywhere as well. And therefore, we must resist everywhere as well.
